My name is Rosemary Gitachu. I am a born-again Christian passionate about family wellness and mentoring youth and young adults.

My Mission

I am writing Decamp: A Story of Resilience and Hope, a memoir recounting my journey of faith through my son’s terminal illness and eventual passing.

It was a deeply traumatising journey marked by prayer and trust in God for my son’s healing and restoration. During this season, God ministered to me with the words, “Break camp and advance.” Initially, I did not take much notice of the message, but I later responded to that call, and from that obedience came my first book, Decamp: A Story of Resilience and Hope.

Through anecdotes and personal experiences, the book shares a testimony of vulnerability, hope, and resilience in the midst of emotional pain, and how God ministered to me through it all. My desire is that the book will encourage those who are bereaved or healing after the loss of a loved one. I also hope it will provide useful insights for mental wellness practitioners and church leaders involved in caring and compassionate ministries.

My Writing Process

I encountered writer’s block several times, and it could be very frustrating. There were mornings when I would wake up fully charged and ready to write, having prayed for God’s inspiration and guidance, only to find myself completely blank once I started.

I learnt that I could not force myself to “unblock”. Instead of fighting it, I would return to prayer and seek the intervention of the Holy Spirit to refresh me. Sometimes I would take a break, do something different, or simply take a nap. Often, when I least expected it, fresh ideas would begin flowing again.

I also learnt to capture ideas whenever they came. If inspiration came while I was engaged in another activity, I would jot it down in my digital notebook and later transfer it to my laptop or Google document.

My Posture

I received feedback from the class facilitators positively, recognising that it was shared in love and intended to enrich my writing. I also looked forward to receiving feedback from my peers as part of the writing process.

To prioritise my writing alongside other commitments, I blocked out Friday afternoons to review my chapter drafts, check their consistency with the book’s theme, and prepare for the 4 p.m. class. I also dedicated time on Mondays, Tuesdays, and some evenings to catch up on any backlogs.

My Onyx Writing Class Experience

My experience with content writing during CLC Kenya’s Onyx Writing Class was very fulfilling. From the beginning, the warm welcome and introduction by the Class Coordinator and facilitators helped set the tone for the journey. Having the 15-week course outline shared at the start also gave me a clear picture of what lay ahead.

One of the aspects I appreciated most was the biblical inspiration shared by Dr. Muthoni Omukhango at the beginning of each class. It helped me approach each new topic while inviting the Holy Spirit to minister to me as I wrote.

I also valued the participatory approach used by the facilitators, where we could give feedback and ask questions at the beginning and end of sessions. Jackline Ingasian’s follow-up messages and words of encouragement often came just when I needed them. Together with the support of the media team and the digital notes provided, these resources greatly helped me in developing my content.

The class was extremely beneficial. Through the weekly sessions and assignments, I gained new knowledge and writing skills while also growing in my Christian faith. I am grateful to God for connecting me with CLC Kenya, a Christian organisation, for the journey of writing my book.

CLC Kenya Celebrates 18 Graduating Writers from the Onyx Writing Mentorship Class

CLC Kenya joyfully celebrated the virtual graduation of 18 writers from the Onyx Writing Mentorship Class, marking another milestone in raising Christian authors across Africa. Facilitated by Jackline Ingasian and hosted by Dr. Muthoni Omukhango, the graduation brought together writers from Kenya and Uganda who have completed manuscripts across various genres, including memoirs, marriage guidance, Christian living, parenting, children’s devotionals, inner healing, financial stewardship, leadership, and discipleship.

During the ceremony, each writer shared their writing journey, the inspiration behind their book, and the lessons learnt through the mentorship process. The event also highlighted CLC Kenya’s wider mission of advancing the gospel through Christian literature, a mission connected to CLC’s global work across 44 countries.

The CLC Kenya’s Writing Class has continued to grow since its beginning in 2020, raising writers who are not only completing manuscripts but also preparing to publish books that will serve families, churches, communities, and nations.

The 2026 graduating writers were encouraged to move forward into the publishing and marketing phase, with the hope of celebrating their published works in 2027 with an in-person graduation set for 28th November 2026 at Garden Estate.

As the session closed in prayer and thanksgiving, the charge was clear: graduation is not the end of the journey, but the beginning of greater stewardship. These writers carry stories, testimonies, teachings, and messages that can impact Africa and beyond.
