What Happens When You Dare to See Beyond Today? Bishop Daniel Matheka on Vision and Purpose

Where There Is No Vision, People Perish – Bishop Daniel Matheka

My name is Bishop Daniel Matheka. I am a pastor and leader who has served in various church leadership responsibilities, from being a local church pastor to serving as a national leader. Throughout my ministry, I have been passionate about raising and training leaders. This passion has led me to reflect on why different leaders behave and operate differently. Through this journey, I came to recognise the importance of vision in leadership, an understanding that became the foundation of my book. I am married to Monicah, and together we are blessed with five grown-up children who have also blessed us with several grandchildren. We live in Kangundo, Machakos County, Kenya.

My Mission

I am writing a book titled Vision: The Heart of a Leader. The motivation behind this book is grounded in Proverbs 29:18 (KJV): “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”

Vision may be given to an individual, but its fulfilment involves people. It is therefore important for both leaders and the people they lead to understand the vision God has given for their organisation.

I have observed that many organisational problems can begin with how vision is understood and handled. This concern motivated me to write about the importance of leaders and their teams seeking to understand the vision entrusted to them so that they can run with it and contribute effectively towards the success of their organisation.

My Writing Process

I experienced writer’s block during the writing journey. When this happened, I stopped writing and spent some time in prayer. I also took time to refresh my mind by interacting and talking with people and getting some rest. After allowing myself that time, I was able to return to the manuscript and continue writing.

Finding time to write alongside my other commitments was also difficult, but God helped me create the time needed to remain committed to the writing process.

My Posture

I received both positive and negative feedback during the Writing Class journey, and I regarded both as sources of encouragement. Rather than allowing feedback to discourage me, I embraced it as part of the journey of developing my writing.

My Onyx Writing  Class Experience

My experience in CLC Kenya’s Onyx Writing Class was very helpful. The programme equipped me to approach writing with a clearer understanding of what I was doing and how to develop my manuscript.

I particularly appreciated the teaching, which was clear, easy to understand, and easy to follow. The class was very beneficial to my writing journey. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend the Onyx Writing Class to aspiring writers and beginning authors.

Closing Reflection

To those who desire to write a book, I would recommend joining the CLC Kenya Writing Class. It has been of great benefit to me. My journey in writing Vision: The Heart of a Leader has reinforced my conviction that vision matters. When God entrusts a vision to a leader, both the leader and the people need to understand it and work together towards its fulfilment.

CLC Kenya Celebrates 18 Graduating Writers from the Onyx Writing Mentorship Class

CLC Kenya joyfully celebrated the virtual graduation of 18 writers from the Onyx Writing Mentorship Class, marking another milestone in raising Christian authors across Africa. Facilitated by Jackline Ingasian and hosted by Dr. Muthoni Omukhango, the graduation brought together writers from Kenya and Uganda who have completed manuscripts across various genres, including memoirs, marriage guidance, Christian living, parenting, children’s devotionals, inner healing, financial stewardship, leadership, and discipleship.

During the ceremony, each writer shared their writing journey, the inspiration behind their book, and the lessons learnt through the mentorship process. The event also highlighted CLC Kenya’s wider mission of advancing the gospel through Christian literature, a mission connected to CLC’s global work across 44 countries.

The CLC Kenya’s Writing Class has continued to grow since its beginning in 2020, raising writers who are not only completing manuscripts but also preparing to publish books that will serve families, churches, communities, and nations.

The 2026 graduating writers were encouraged to move forward into the publishing and marketing phase, with the hope of celebrating their published works in 2027 with an in-person graduation set for 28th November 2026 at Garden Estate.

As the session closed in prayer and thanksgiving, the charge was clear: graduation is not the end of the journey, but the beginning of greater stewardship. These writers carry stories, testimonies, teachings, and messages that can impact Africa and beyond.
